Geometric Color Wall step-by-step

1: Design the composition and mask off the outlines

Use the design as a guide and draw it on paper to scale for your wall. Then transfer it to the wall using a projector or the grid technique. For round shapes, you can use a plate or tray as a stencil, or draw a circle with a pencil and a piece of string.

You can also choose to draw inspiration from this design and create your own composition. First, draw the shapes on paper, cut them out, and color them in. Arrange the shapes until you’re satisfied with the result, then transfer the design to the wall in the same way.

2: Start painting

Mask off the shape with tape and press the edges firmly so no paint can seep underneath. For an extra clean finish, you can first apply a thin layer of acrylic medium along the tape line. Then pour your chosen color into a paint tray and fill in the shape with a roller or brush.

3: Paint shape by shape

Repeat this step for each shape and color. Work carefully and take your time when masking; clean tape lines are essential for this design. Remove the tape while the paint is still wet to ensure a sharp edge. Then let the paint dry thoroughly before painting an adjacent shape.

4: Paint the large areas with a roller

You can paint the large areas quickly and easily with a roller. Does the area not cover completely in one go? No problem. Just let the first coat dry thoroughly and then apply a second coat over it.

5: Work cleanly and neatly

It’s best to pour the paint into a paint tray before you start. This keeps the paint in the can clean and uncontaminated. For small details, you can work directly from the can, but make sure your brush is clean.

6: Evaluate the final result

Step back and take a critical look at your mural one last time. Touch up where necessary. Then place your furniture in the desired spot and enjoy your creation.
