Everything you need for this design

You'll need these materials

  • Amsterdam Creative Wall Paint
  • Flat brush
  • Paint roller
  • Painter's tape
  • Measuring tape
  • Level
  • Ladder or step stool
  • Pastel chalk, light gray
  • Optional: Amsterdam Acrylic Medium Mat

Prepare your wall

  • Surface: Make sure the wall is clean, dry, and even.
  • Planning: Measure the available space and determine the position and layout of the different colored lines.
  • Color selection: Curious about how the colors will look in the room? Make color swatches (e.g., A4 size) and tape them to the wall to see how light and space affect the colors.

Create this mural in 5 easy steps

Follow the steps, take your time, and discover how much fun it is to create something unique yourself.

1: Determine the position of the color sections

Divide the wall into 5 vertical color sections that run down from the ceiling. Don't make all the color sections the same width, and let some sections extend further than others.

2: Determine the position of the colored areas

Lightly sketch the outlines with soft pastel. Use a (laser) level or a straightedge.

3: Carefully mask off the surfaces

Mask off the first section along the outer edge. If necessary, use Acrylic Medium (matte) to seal the edges of the masking tape securely. Paint this section with a paint roller and remove the tape while the paint is still wet. Does the paint not cover the surface in one coat? No problem. Let the paint dry, apply another coat, and then remove the tape.

4: Paint the color blocks

Repeat step 2 for each stripe. Tape just slightly over the (dry!) painted edge so that the colors line up neatly.

5: Evaluate the final result

Take a step back and see if the proportions and color blocks are nicely balanced. Touch up any imperfections or uneven edges. Once you’re satisfied with the result, you can rearrange the room and enjoy the graphic effect of the mural.
