I work broadly: from graphic design to mural painting, and I also create commissioned artwork. For example, I designed the tile tableau on the facade of the new Royal Talens building. Creativity and experimentation are always at the core of my work, but sometimes it’s nice to have a bit more control, like with this project.
What attracted me to Creative Wall Paint is that the paint is specifically made for walls, comes in smaller jars, and has truly intense colors. When I paint a mural, I often end up with a lot of leftover paint or missing certain shades. It’s great that there is now a paint designed exactly for this purpose.
For this mural, I worked with a pre-designed concept because I knew I was going to be filmed. Normally, my process is more intuitive: a rough idea, playful painting, and seeing how the design develops. The paint worked beautifully—intense colors, smooth application, and quickly paintable over. That last part is ideal when you work in a process-driven way.
I also love the brushes from Amsterdam Acrylics. Because I like working freehand, they offer a lot of control and precision. I didn’t need to mix colors for this project, but what stood out to me was the intensity and the fast drying time. It’s hard to find a bright pink or blue wall paint, and this dries so quickly that the process flows smoothly.
Working on a wall is different from working on canvas. A wall doesn’t give, which I like, but they’re not always perfectly smooth. The end result gives the space freshness and depth, especially through the combination of bold colors with more pastel-like tones.
My tips for anyone creating a mural for the first time: work on a surface whose colors you already know, don’t be afraid to play, and use mistakes as inspiration. Cardboard shapes, trays, or plates help when transferring shapes, especially on uneven walls. Dare to deviate from your original idea and choose colors that are already present in the space—this helps everything come together more quickly.
