Justyna Pennards

I am a visual artist, trained in painting at the HKU University of the Arts Utrecht. For years, I’ve been creating nature-inspired, semi-abstract landscapes in which trees return again and again as symbols of vitality and growth. My work moves between intuition and structure. I work with organic forms, layered colors and I’m always looking for a strong relationship between the artwork and the space it inhabits.

Material knowledge as second nature

Alongside my independent practice, I work in product development within artists’ materials. Because of that, I approach materials not only intuitively but analytically as well. I want to understand what a paint does, how pigments respond and how a certain consistency behaves on different surfaces. That combination of instinct and knowledge is something I bring into every piece I create.

First impression of Creative Wall Paint

When I first started working with Creative Wall Paint, the clarity and intensity of the colors immediately stood out. These are not flat wall‑paint colors but true artist colors with depth. I also love that the paint is ready to use. I do not need to add mediums to get the right consistency. It makes the process direct and intuitive, exactly how I like to work.

Starting point: an intuitive mural sketch

I began spontaneously with a soft pastel sketch. Soft pastel works incredibly well on a wall for me. You can easily erase lines or let them blend subtly when painting over them. I never plan every detail in advance. A mural needs to collaborate with the space. I have to see the light, feel the proportions and experience the existing colors. The real composition only emerges once I am in the space itself.

Painting experience

In practice, the paint was smooth and highly controlled. Most colors offer strong coverage, while the more transparent shades add an extra layer of visual interest. What truly surprised me was how the paint does not splatter or drip. That gives enormous freedom, especially when working on a large scale. And a practical detail, not a single stain on my clothing.

Control and precision in large gestures

Because the paint does not splatter, working with a roller or brush feels very relaxed. You can achieve sharp edges and paint graphic forms and clean lines freehand. Especially with organic yet defined shapes such as the trees and landscape motifs in my work, that level of control is essential.

Color mixing and paint behavior

I also mixed colors and they blended beautifully while staying bright. What I especially liked is that the consistency allows you to hold two colors on the brush at the same time for subtle transitions. It feels similar to high-quality acrylics mixed with a painting medium, smooth but never watery.

Painting on walls versus canvas

For me, the biggest difference between painting on canvas and on a wall is scale. A wall forces you to think in larger gestures. You cannot rotate it to reach a detail more easily, so you often work in awkward positions. That is exactly why reliable paint is so important. When your materials do not drip or splatter, you have the freedom to take artistic risks.

The impact on the space

Once the mural was finished, the room transformed completely. The colors connected with the wallpaper and other elements in the space, turning everything into a cohesive whole. A mural does not function as an isolated object. It becomes an atmosphere. It influences how you feel in the space.

Pace, drying time and finishing

What surprised me during the process was how easily the paint handles and how quickly it dries. That allows you to build layers fast and add details afterward, for example with a marker. The speed at which you can work without losing quality is remarkable.

My advice for beginning mural makers

My tip for anyone creating a mural for the first time is simple. Just start. It is easier than you think. You grow into the process along with the wall. Trust your intuition and trust the material.

What sets Creative Wall Paint apart

What sets Creative Wall Paint apart from regular wall paint, in my experience, is the color intensity and pigment strength. These are not standard interior shades. They are clearly formulated for artists. You can feel the focus on expression, blendability and control. It is not just about covering a wall. It is about creating a work of art.
